A Federação Portuguesa de Montanhismo e Escalada (FPME) nasceu do desejo dos praticantes de actividades de montanha em verem-se representados por uma entidade que, de facto, procurasse a promoção e o desenvolvimento do montanhismo, da escalada e das várias modalidades desportivas que lhes estão associadas.
O Núcleo de Montanha de Espinho desde a primeira hora ousou aderir a este projecto que teve o mérito de agrupar clubes de todo o território nacional e, acima de tudo, reunir pessoas excepcionais que com meios bastante escassos vão mantendo viva a esperança de um dia o Estado Português reconhecer que, no que concerne aos desportos de montanha, é a única Federação verdadeiramente útil ao país.
Ao requereres a emissão da tua Licença Federativa FPME estás a dar um voto de confiança a este projecto que é de todos e para todos. Queremos ter uma Federação que para além da Escalada de Competição tenha uma oferta formativa que vá de encontro às necessidades dos associados, que tenha uma palavra a dizer na discussão do acesso a espaços naturais condicionados, que promova a defesa do ambiente, que desenvolva as actividades de montanha e escalada adaptada, que promova o reequipamento de vias de escalada em rocha, que permita a obtenção de seguros desportivos em condições vantajosas,… , queremos ter uma Federação em que confiemos.
