A ideia era fazer uma actividade de montanhismo clássica, ao som do chilrear da passarada e apreciando a flora local. Bastaria o mapa e uma ideia do percurso a seguir para nos concedermos o privilégio de andar perdidos por entre maciços graníticos e ribeiros de águas cristalinas. Os 18 graus que se faziam sentir logo pelas 9 da manhã anteviam o já habitual escaldão, seguindo-se o também já habitual sermão “Não tens protector solar?“.
A última vez que andei por estas bandas foi numa travessia realizada em 2005 na companhia do João Gil, do Ricardo Carmo e do Topas. O facto de já terem passado 14 anos desde esta incursão trouxeram-me saudades e fizeram-me sentir em dívida com este local, merecedor de visitas mais assíduas. Grande parte da minha paixão pelos espaços naturais teve aqui a sua origem e é um património que espero possa ser passado para as gerações vindouras, pelo menos, nas mesmas condições em que o conheci.
Para esta actividade lá consegui convencer o Fofoni e o Fernando Santos a deixarem a Serra de Valongo para outras calendas, argumentando que sempre poderíamos fazer algumas partes do percurso em ritmo de corrida. Sendo eu o elo mais fraco desta tríade antevia-se empeno pela certa.
Os trilhos estavam razoáveis, notando-se alguma proliferação excessiva de mariolas, em alguns troços, e a ausência das mesmas, noutros, que tornam confusa a orientação.
No percurso ainda foi possível o avistamento de um conjunto de cabras selvagens que, indiferentes à nossa passagem, seguiram a sua subida da encosta.
O Gerês marca-nos. Sobretudo a urze e o tojo ao nível das pernas. Nada que nos incomode, ou não fizéssemos parte integrante do núcleo das montanhas de espinhos.
Este percurso acabou por ser para mim uma autêntica Via Sacra. Para além dos espinhos cravados nas pernas, houve ainda direito a apedrejamento na descida dos Carris. Os pés de bailarina há muito que não eram triturados em pancadas sucessivas de quartzo, feldspato e mica. O Fofoni, tornado Rabino ao longo do percurso pela radiação solar, forçou o ritmo até à Portela de Leonte. Durante este calvário várias vezes dirigi a palavra aos céus, na esperança que um kick final de energia me invadisse e conseguisse novamente voltar a correr.
“Forcinha nas pernas, porque me abandonaste?“, gemia eu, olhando para a estrada que não parava de subir. Ao chegar ao estacionamento, morri.
